Trivia
- Production began at at Chuck Jones' MGM cartoon studio, but was finished by DePatie-Freleng.
- Based on the book of the same name by Dr. Seuss.
- According to animator/historian Mike Kazalah, Chuck Jones did the original storyboards when the production began at his MGM Sib Tower 12 studio. When it moved to DFE Films, director Hawley Pratt was so displeased with the original storyboards he tore them all down and redid every panel himself (albeit without screen credit).
- The original sponsor for the special was Nabisco. At the time of the special's release, contemporary journalists wrote rebuttals arguing that children's characters should not be selling products to kids (a far cry from today's current adverts).
