- The first animated film by UPA as well as the first animated film from Columbia Pictures.
- Pete Burness, long-time Mr. Magoo shorts director, was the original director for the film; however, due to a number of difficulties including workload stress and a lack of enthusiasm over the scripts he was replaced with Jack Kinney. Adam Abraham interviewed Burness' son and he stated Pete was not happy with the final product calling it a "cornball deal".
