:
This Mickey, Donald, and Goofy short has some great moments. The boys are suppose to be Pete's Pit crew, but they can't get to the track because Goofy has disassembled their truck searching for a squeak. {This is a reference to
Mickey's Service Station
(1935) a short that had the boys disassembling Pete's car to find a squeak.} When they finally get the truck together Mickey mumbles that he needs a new partner. Goofy is crushed, and Mickey says he meant that his partner needs a new hat. This leads to several great gags concerning Goofy looking for new headgear. (Including several with Mickey's ears and a series of great sight gags in a "Mad Hatter's Shop".) The boys finally get to the track and manage to win the race for Pete, right before he "pinches off their heads". As I said some great moments, but overall this short just doesn't flow well. It feels like a string of unrelated gags. The trio concept produced the best of the "MouseWorks" cartoons, (
Mickey Foils the Phantom Blot
) but in general the Mickey, Donald, and Goofy shorts are pretty lackluster.

:
O.K. The trio was Pete's pit crew in this short, but they're in their office instead of at the racetrack...When I saw that I knew the short was in real trouble. Then when I saw the disassembled truck I knew that they'd take the whole short to get to the track. But I sure couldn't believe it. The truck getting taken apart was already used as a gag for the MMW short
Car Washers
(which in turn was a knock-off of the classic
Mickey's Service Station
) Goofy had a plotthread about getting a new hat, in which he spent a lot of time bringing cartoony gags upon himself by trying out new hats. But those gags came off only as a big waste of time to get to the track. Nothing in this short could work because the whole short was based on a predicament that made no sense as all. One of the worst of the MMW shorts. DYN: Along with the "guest of honor" this short featured Goofy Junior from the classic shorts, and the gas station attendant from that first "Mickey MouseWorks" short,
Mickey's New Car
