- On Miles' dad's contact list, Steve Ditko is listed, who was the co-creator and artist on the first few Spider-Man issues.
- Phil Lord and Chris Miller's animated series Clone High is referenced in the New York City advestisements. The sign pokes fun at the potential spin-off ideas to the series that never saw the light of day, including one where the main cast goes to college.
- Spider-Ham quotes the famous line, "That's All Folks" from the highly influential Looney Tunes cartoons from Warner Bros (which helped to influence the style of the character himself).

- During the opening Spider-Man introduction, numerous scenes make reference to the Sam Raimi Spider-Man film trilogy. In addition, the opening theme song to the 1967 Spider-Man cartoon is shown briefly.
- The New York City ads in the film make reference to several movies, albums and toys. Edgar Wright's Shaun of the Dead is referenced, the Mr. Potato Head line of toys is parodied as "Mr. Tomato Head", the music team the Blue Man Group are parodied as the "Red Man Group" and The Weekend album Starboy is referenced..
- The Columbia Pictures logo features various versions of the iconic logo including the animated cowgirl titles to the 1965 film "Cat Ballou".
