- According to Monkey Punch in interivews, he took the job of directing Lupin III: Dead or Alive due to the production having a 5 month deadline and no one else was available to direct. He only directed the opening and closing scenes of the movie and left everything else to assistant director Hiroyuki Yano. Monkey Punch stated that his experience in directing was too demanding and continued to state that "it took more than a thousand times the energy of drawing a manga to produce and direct this movie" and that he never wanted to direct another movie again.
