Synopsis

Woody, a pull-string cowboy doll and Andy's favorite toy, gets his world turned upside-down when Buzz Lightyear, a high-tech space ranger action figure, arrives on the scene and wins over the other toys in the room. When Woody's attempt to get rid of Buzz ends with the two in the hands of toy-destroying Sid, they are forced to work together to escape in one piece and make it back to Andy before he moves away.

Milestones

  • The first feature-length computer animated film.
  • Pixar's first feature-length film.

Trivia

  • The original plot for Toy Story was originally going to be Tinny (the main character in the 1988 Pixar short Tin Toy) and would have involved him being on a family trip and accidentally left behind at a rest stop by his owners. He would later be found by a junk man and escape from him by teaming up with an old sarcastic ventriloquist dummy and they would try and get back to his family, eventually making it to a preschool where they will never get lost and outgrown. The writers felt that Tinny would be too old-fashioned for child's favorite toy, so he would later be replaced by a toy astronaut and a ragdoll cowboy which would then later become Buzz Lightyear and Woody respectively.
  • Originally, Buzz was supposed to be tiny and was named Lunar Larry and later Tempus from Morph.
