At a Halloween party, the Simpsons each tell a scary tale. First in "Clown Without Pity", Lisa tells a tale about a cursed Krusty doll trying to kill Homer. Then in "King Homer", Grandpa retells the 1933 classic "King Kong" starring Homer as King Homer. Finally, in "Dial "Z" For Zombies" Bart tells a tale about how he finds a book of spells and accidentally brings the dead to life.

Clips Used In:

Dial 'N' for Nerder

Contains Reused Animation from:

Radio Bart (The shot of Homer saying to the Krusty Doll "Yeah, dogs like to bury old junk." is a reused shot of Homer sayin "Hmmm. Bart's birthday's coming up.")
Treehouse of Horror II (The scene where Kang and Kodos observe the world from their ship during the zombie outbreak is reused footage from Treehouse of Horror II when Kang and Kodos begin their plan to invade the Earth.)

Inside Jokes

  • In the "Dial "Z" For Zombies" segment, there are 3 tombstones in the pet cemetery with the names "Fish Police", Capitol Critters", and "Family Dog". This is a joke referring to the 3 short-lived primetime animated series of the same names that tried to compete with The Simpsons at the time (it should also be noted that Family Dog was created by former Simpsons crew member Brad Bird).
  • One of the tombstones in the opening sequence reads "Drexell's Class", a short-lived sitcom that aired following "The Simpsons" the previous season.
  • The spells in Bart's book features a variety of references of familiar names; The spell that was used to raise the dead feature the last names of several game show hosts ("Cullen, Rayburn, Narz, Trebek") and department stores ("Zabar, Kresge, Caldor, Walmart"), the spell that accidentally turned Lisa into a snail feature names of 1970's TV detectives ("Kojak, Mannix, Banachek, Danno"), and the spell to reverse the zombie spell feature brand names of condoms ("Trojan, Ramses, Magnum, Sheik").

  • Footage of Kang and Kodos in their spaceship from "Treehouse of Horror II" is reused for the "Dial "Z" For Zombies" segment.
  • The newspaper spinning into the camera at the end of "King Homer" has a second article that reads "Dick Cavett Born" with the picture of said talk show host. But if you look closely at the scene while the newspaper spins, the second article reads "Woody Allen Born" with a picture of said filmmaker.
