The animal appearing in this short is not an ostrich, it's a rhea that is similar and is from Argentina.

One of the four shorts that comprise the short film Saludos Amigos. This is basically part of the Goofy "How To.." series, in which Goofy shows how NOT TO be a gaucho. Goofy is an American cowboy who is transported to the pampas of Argentina. The funniest scene for me is, after Goofy has captured an Argentine ostrich with bolas, the sequence is shown in slow motion to capture the "grace and beauty" of the action. But, the slow motion only reveals Goofy's clumsiness as he gets himself, his horse, and the bird tangled up together in the bolas.

The short is nicely done, but I've never been a fan of Goofy's "How To..." series.

This short is fun, but is not among my favorites.

I have only seen this short about once or twice in my lifetime. It's another one of those "How to" shorts. This time Goofy is demonstrating the fine art of being a gaucho. The short shows Goofy trying to ride an ostrich. This is just like in the 1928 Mickey short Gallopin' Gaucho. I don't get it. There aren't any ostriches in South America (they live only in Africa). I liked watching this short, but I wouldn't call it one of my favorites.

This is a great short where Goofy tries, but doesn't succeed, to capture an ostrich. This segment was later released as a short subject with an opening that should be familiar to Disney video collectors as it was later used later on home video as part of those wonderful, successful "Cartoon Classics, a delightful series of cartoon programs featuring your favorite Disney characters!"

One of the many "How to" shorts featuring Goofy. An interesting short, too, as "How to be a Cowboy" could have evolved into this short.

It's a funny short the is packaged in Saludos Amigos. It has many gags featuring my favorite when the narrator says Goofy can make a bed on top of the horse, and the horse turns over making the bed on Goofy.

Yeah, I thought this cartoon was pretty good except for one little thing that ticked me off. I came across a German website and, even though I could not understand the language, it was made clear that Goofy's cigarette was edited out! While I myself don't approve of smoking, I sent in a complaint letter to Disney asking for an uncensored DVD copy of El Gaucho Goofy. And I hope for it to come soon.

This short is a part of Disney's 6th animated classic: Saludos Amigos. Which is also a part of Disney's Classic Caballeros Collection on DVD since 2008! In this short on said double-feature DVD, I never saw Goofy smoking anything! At least he tried to become a gaucho! Right down to eating a knife with his meat and bread! (He was supposed to cut the meat with it, ouch!) Slow-motion can come in handy to see Goofy be himself! Tying up South American ostriches can be tough for him, even with bolas! "Did he say bolas? Caramba!" Later on, we see Goofy doing Latin dances with his horse! Right down to his clothes popping off and dancing with him! Near the end, Goofy was sent back to our Western part of our country and said to the people, "Hasta la vista. Adios amigos!" He was way ahead of Arnold Schwarzenegger when it came to that phrase! Is outdoor barbequing on a charcoal grill on the ground still popular in South America these days?
