Well, darn. I was hoping that if this collection couldn't be chronological then there might at least be one or two discoveries awaiting, akin to the restored ending music on some of the Famous Popeyes.

That's not a dealbreaker by any means, of course.

Some interesting, further discussions about the audio quality of Daredevil Droopy and Symphony in Slang on the Home Theater forum and the Blu-ray.com forum. Robert Harris (who gave the Blu-ray an advance review on HTF with several embarrassing factual mistakes) is sounding less and less like he has any idea what he's talking about.

Slightly off topic, didn’t the Looney Tunes 4 DVD Golden Collection have sound problems( pitch?). I pre ordered this Tex Avery blu-ray. Simply, because it looks amazing based on those clips. But I can always chicken out like I did for Porky Pid 101.

There were a bunch of issues scattered throughout the series, the most offensive ones being a sizable number of cartoons with low-pitch on the first set (Golden Yeggs, Awful Orphan, Rabbit of Seville, Rabbit Fire, Kit for Cat, Bully for Bugs, High Diving Hare, Early to Bet), which never got rectified when those cartoons got reissued on Blu-Ray; and Southern Fried Rabbit with horrific noise reduction on the fourth set.

1 out of 19 cartoons having an issue is a fairly typical average for these collections, but I guess we'll have to wait until someone that knows the films takes a look at it to know more.

He's done important work and is knowledgeable about film history and restoration, but he's a known shill for Warners and clearly has little knowledge of these cartoons and their history. The idea that noise reduction wasn't done to Daredevil Droopy and that a previous release/streaming's audio can't be better because a nitrate release print's track isn't available for comparison is completely absurd.

Weren't a few shorts on the first two volumes (and The Last Hungry Cat and The Bear That Wasn't on the third volume) also plagued with DVNR?

Talking about the noise reduction on the track of Southern Fried Rabbit. Compare it to the old Yosemite Sam Yeller Fever VHS...

That's the specific comment I had in mind too. What a ridiculous reply.

Oh...for a moment there, I thought the image was affected, not the audio. Perhaps you could've been a bit more descript there...

My comment was re: audio issues, and noise reduction goes on there too. Picture wise, there is DVNR on a few Vol. 1 cartoons (Canary Row, Water Water Every Hare, Boobs in the Woods come to mind) and Vol. 2 had some of the worst ever (The Big Snooze and Gorilla My Dreams). I don't recall any instances after on the main attraction titles...

But to get it on track, I'm still anticipating this Avery disc greatly.

Robert Harris mentions that “audio elements” for DAREDEVIL DROOPY is from the “uncut version”. Does that mean the version from the Droopy dvd set? That has really bad DVNR. I used to see this cartoon uncut during the glory cartoon days of TNT and TBS. The term “uncut version” does not help. It just means that the un-pc stuff is in it.

It is most emphatically not the same as the DVD, because that was standard-definition. The version shown on YouTube is true HD, and that has no DVNR. My guess is "uncut version" is the excuse they're using for why it has so much noise reduction/distortion (even though the laser and DVD were uncut too and didn't have track issues).

This review mentions something I reacted to myself when seeing the screenshots that Yowp shared earlier: the George and Junior shorts look noticeably softer and less grainy than many of the others. I wonder why that is. The difference is certainly very clear when looking at a screenshot from Dumb-Hounded next to Hound Hunters:

Heads up if you pre-ordered on Amazon. I received an update from Amazon saying my arrival date is 3/11. Not sure if that is really accurate but I guess I'll be canceling that order and ordering elsewhere.

As said before, it's better to order it anywhere BUT Amazon. I suggest WB Shop themselves.

Unless you're not living in the United States, I don't understand why anyone is still pre-ordering Warner Archive titles from Amazon given their track record. Most of us here knew that Amazon would come out informing their customers about a delay.

As for me, I got tired of waiting for Best Buy to start taking orders, and as of right now, they still don't have a pre-order link on their website, I ended up ordering from Walmart based on recommendations from others. I got an estimate of delivery by 2/20. I guess that means Walmart will ship it out on its release date of 2/18. If so, it will still arrive a lot sooner than it would from Amazon. Walmart also gave me free shipping. While free shipping is always welcome, I just hope it doesn't mean that they will go cheap on the packaging they will ship it in.
