Once again, during Memorial Day Weekend is the Columbus Moving Picture Show (formally Cinevent) and this Saturday, they had their Annual Animation Program showing actual film prints of cartoons. Unfortunately, it was announced a few weeks ago that this will be the final Columbus Moving Picture Show event after over 56 years in total due to several factors (i.e. rising costs, ageing attendees, poor hotel management decision, etc.). Despite that, the team helped made this last show one to remember and the animation program was no exception. In addition, during their first night on Thursday (which I didn't attend), as part of an Arthur Q. Bryan (aka Elmer J. Fudd) screening (which included the 1941 Vitaphone short "Trouble in Store" and the 1946 Universal feature "Idea Girl), they showed "Dangerous Dan McFoo (Warner Bros., 1939), the first animated short that featured his voice. Anyway, here is what was shown on Saturday's screening:
Betty Co-Ed (Fleischer, 1931, U.M. & M TV print)
You Don't Know What You're Doin' (Warners, 1932)
Stopping the Show (Fleischer, 1932, U.M. & M TV print)
The Mail Pilot (Disney, 1933, Buena Vistas print)
Hamatuer Night (Warners, 1939, Blue Ribbon)
The Alley Cat (MGM, 1941)
Wolf Chases Pigs (Columbia, 1942)
The Loose Nut* (Lantz, 1945)
The Brave Engineer (Disney, 1952)
Blind Date (Terrytoons, 1953)
Once again, it was a great screening, and it is a shame that this was the last one. My thanks to both Thad Komorowaski and Steve Stanchfield (who I miss seeing by five minutes but got to shop at his booth) for lending some of the film prints in the screening and big thanks to Samantha Glasser and team for organizing the events for the last few years. It wouldn't been a success without them.
