Special Feature: Documentary "Tex Avery: King of Cartoons"
Welcome back for another three-ring circus of animated comedy from the legendary leader of cartoon fun – director Tex Avery. In the first ring, Avery serves up some of his finest one-shot creations: cartoons featuring cats who hate people, wacky cuckoo clocks, kooky cavemen and lovelorn French fleas. We also meet up again with Avery's attractive Red Riding Hood, a pair of amorous wolves and his durable all-around fall guy, Spike. The second ring is a showcase for Avery's ironically deadpan "Happy Hound": Droopy. This time, Droopy appears in a number of guises – each one funnier than the last. As bandleader "John Pettybone," he leads his jazz-playing fleas to the heights of canine stardom. Out West, as a homesteader and a sheepherder, he has his final showdowns with the Wolf. The third ring offers a whimsical glimpse into the future – or at least a future from the POV of the mid-20th century – with a plethora of zany postwar inventions. While none of the cartoons "of tomorrow" foresaw smartphones or Blu-ray players, these far-fetched contraptions, gadgets, houses and farms, televisions, and various modes of transportation could only come from the madcap mind of Avery and his MGM crew. Uncut, restored and remastered in High Definition for the first time, Tex Avery Screwball Classics Collection Volume 2 is another must-own collection from the master of hand-drawn mayhem.
This 21 cartoon collection includes:
1 LITTLE RURAL RIDING HOOD
2 THE CUCKOO CLOCK
3 MAGICAL MAESTRO
4 ONE CAB'S FAMILY
5 CAT THAT HATED PEOPLE
6 DOGGONE TIRED
7 THE FLEA CIRCUS

10 OUT FOXED
11 DROOPY'S DOUBLE TROUBLE
12 THREE LITTLE PUPS
13 DRAGALONG DROOPY
14 HOMESTEADER DROOPY
15 DIXIELAND DROOPY
16 COUNTERFEIT CAT

So, they didn't scan these in 4K?

Actually, Warner Archive's Facebook announcement  now says, "New 2020 1080p HD Masters from 4K Scans of best surviving preservation elements!" It's been edited since the original posting.

Nice that they're also including the 1988 "Tex Avery: King of Cartoons" documentary. I don't understand why they didn't just put it on Volume 1. It would have fit perfectly on there, especially considering that it starts off with the opening scene in the first Screwy Squirrel cartoon. I hope future volumes will include the Tex documentaries done for the French 2003 DVD set and the Looney Tunes Platinum Collection Volume 2 Blu-ray set.

Apparently, Happy-Go-Nutty won't be included on this second volume, unfortunately.

Also, it will be interesting to see how Doggone Tired will look restored, since that short and Jerky Turkey were the only Tex Avery MGM cartoons to somehow fall into the public domain.

Gotta wonder what's up with that, particularly since this set will have Magical Maestro.

They are probably going to save it for Volume 3, presumably.

Awesome!

21 shorts, none of them too un-PC. Only very brief caricatures in Magical Maestro, usually not cut from TV airings.

My bet for volume 3 is 20 or 21 shorts (Blitz Wolf is the uncertain 21st short). 6 are going to remain in the vault, you can guess which ones.
I always come to TTTP in Exile in the hope of finding news about Warner announcing Tex Avery Collection.

All four of the cartoons that are on HBO Max are here. That bears out what's been said about these being mostly cartoons transferred for HBO Max.

And Magical Maestro was absolutely edited for TV.

Might be a stretch of topic, but I wonder how Lucky Ducky's gonna look like in later volumes, since restorationists have sourced a good-looking 35mm with the original 1948 titles on it. EDIT: This is not big news as some may think, since the screenshots of this short are already available on Cartoon Research way back since 2013.

The HBO Max versions didn't look very good. All of them had DVNR artifacts (besides Ventiloquist Cat which was left uncleaned), bad color correction and recycled audio from old masters.

Maybe they're using the same scans but they're actually doing some proper restoration work this time.

As for Lucky Ducky, I hope I can get my hands on a raw scan of that one day.

Hey, you're right! It looks almost exactly like the cover on Patrick Brion's French Tex Avery book! (Though not as well drawn as the publicity still straight from Little Rural Riding Hood which they used there.)

I think Wolfie was saying that the cover art matched their avatar photo, if you look a little closer.
The stuff you said is nice too Mesterius, but it was a joke, son! You missed it! It was too fast for ya! You're built to low, the fast ones go over your head!

Do you REALLY think I didn't get that? I wish sarcasm translated better in writing...

(Maybe a smiley after the second sentence in my comment would have made it clearer, but I felt that would be overkill.)

Considering that's it's coming out next month, I'm surprised the Christmas themed "One Ham's Family" isn't on this volume.

I am a little confused about when this set is actually supposed to release. WB Shop has it listed as 12/1 while others have it listed as 12/15.

Also, can anyone report on whether Amazon is still have issues fulfilling new release orders for WAC titles? I thought I read somewhere that Vol. 1 was shipped on time to customers that ordered it.

Just pre-ordered both DVD volumes on the WB Shop. The DVD versions are not listed on Amazon yet and I still think it's wiser to order on Warners instead.

Has anyone received notification that their order was shipped? I placed an order on 11/21 through WB Shop and there has been no activity since then.

Could it be possible that WB Shop had the wrong release date listed and this set actually isn't supposed to be released until 12/15, which is the date all the other sites are listing for release?
