Here we go guys, another return from the King of All Things Cartoons! Here is the description for July 31st:

"Jerry will be back to chat about the latest news in cartoon feature films (including his review of "Toy Story 4"), print media, television, streaming, and home video. He'll have the latest info on the upcoming new series of "Looney Tunes" cartoons that will be online next year. He'll also discuss the release of the second color Popeye blu ray by the WB Archives (plus many other new releases including "Jonny Quest", "Lippy and Hardy", and "Wally Gator"), and we'll both give our thoughts on the upcoming "horror" version of "The Banana Splits" being developed (no joke). We'll screen three more classic cartoons from Jerry's personal archives, and we'll also have a surprise or two in store as well. Plus, as always, we'll read your e-mails!"

Last time, he said that he teased "good news" about Warner Archive releases he couldn't talk about that would be announced at Comic-Con. Please don't tell me that Hanna-Barbera releases are it.

Again, the only non-modern release announced so far at Comic-Con has been Batman Beyond. Was The Jetsons supposed to be one of the "very exciting" releases? Or unrestored DVD-R's of Wally Gator and Lippy The Lion?

The YouTube clip for Lippy the Lion looks quite poor and unrestored yet one of the commenters said that the set is fully restored and looks much better than Wally Gator. Yet the YouTube clip for Wally Gator looks much higher quality than the Lippy the Lion clip in my opinion.

Very odd that they’re deciding to put out unrestored sets for the popular H-B cartoons when they’re re-releasing Jonny Quest and The Jetsons in HD.

Normally Jerry is on three times per year including the holiday visit given that the show has been renewed for Season 14. However, since the season premiere is scheduled to start on October 2, Christmas falls on the day when Stu normally does the show every other Wednesday, and everything is closed. He could possibly pre-record it which is unlikely, take that week off to prepare for New Year's Eve, or he could possibly do the show on a different day given that the show after this one falls on a Tuesday (August 13) due to his ear surgery scheduled for August 14th in the morning, but Jerry could possibly come back earlier in December as well. Hopefully this will be sorted out once Jerry is on the show July 31st.

The recent show also was discussing that the broadcast length of the show times have been too long given that some shows ran 4.5 hours in length, and the industry people were suggesting to end the show at 2 hours like he used to when he was running the radio station and create a part 2 pre-recorded next week (with first half highlights). He wasn't a fan of that because a television broadcast requires a lot of work, and many of us wanted to keep it status quo, which he did.

I don't think we've complained at all about the broadcast length time either, even when Jerry Beck has been on the show numerous times wanting to hear the news, especially with what we want to know.

I don't want to get to far OT but as far as Wally/Lippy goes for those interested I would agree Lippy is in better shape as I haven't seen any Lippys where the whole cartoon looks "grainy" while there were at least a half dozen or so in Wally. I also don''t think there are as many specks coming and going. As far as the volume level changing from cartoon to cartoon it is definitely there but at least for me not so severe that I am constantly changing the volume with my remote. The most common complaint I've seen is people thinking Wally, Lippy, and Touche would all be on the Wally release for $24.99.

I can't currently post screen shots. All I can tell you is If Touche gets released even at this same quality, I will be buying. If you need crystal clear Blu Ray like quality you may want to pass.

If Lippy the Lion and Wally Gator were only printed in 16mm, they certainly would have been photographed in 35mm. Hanna-Barbera and other cartoon producers typically used 35mm film. There has to be some 35mm negatives for Lippy and Wally as well as Touche Turtle.

So, SDCC is over, and nothing "all good, all exciting" was announced? What happened? Did plans change?

I’m sure a restoration for Wally Gator would’ve been profitable.

But, I mean... this is kind of what the DVD-R only releases of H-B shows have always done: just release the cartoons using easily available off-the-shelf masters and make them available to people. I'm guessing Warner hasn't made a decision right now about whether (or when) Wally and Lippy will get HD restorations. They probably just got to a point where someone said, "okay, let's get THIS released", so they put out the DVD sets.

Well, if there wasn't any unannounced DVD/Blu-Ray news at Comic-Con (he'd didn't say it was for certain), I think he might save it for the show if he is allowed yet.

Uh, that is some first-rate misinformation being bandied. These cartoons were almost certainly photographed in 35mm like all the other early shows, as Ken Layton says. What the late Earl Kress actually said was that those materials were in such sorry shape, and because H-B DVD sales weren't too hot, the restoration costs for Wally Gator couldn't be justified. I can certainly believe WAC just went to whatever 16mm materials were on hand, however. [EDIT: I heard Jerry relay George Feltenstein saying that all that is there is 16mm negatives, and that it was shot on 16mm. I'd need to see some documentation to corroborate that, though... Maybe H-B trashed the 35mms...]

As for revisiting H-B series via WAC, I'd be on board for the restored Quick Draw McGraw to finally surface, dedicated to Earl (it was his favorite TV cartoon) and featuring everything he produced for that still-born set. Yeah, I know, music rights issues. So deal with them already. Would also like to see the early Flintstones revisited in HD, without DVNR.

I seemed to recall "Magilla Gorilla" not being restored or at least did not have the show's opening or closing theme song.

I just everyone to know that as of last Wednesday, I've been given another day of work at the library I work at, so I won't be able to give all the important tidbits tomorrow.

Someone else will have to do it from here on out.

I wonder if they'll mention The Flinstones animated reboot during the show? So far the responses are mixed and the genial host mentioned last show that he doesn't like reboots. Maybe Jerry may give this one praise or not, but we shall find out come today if he brings it up.

Don't forget to send in the e-mails, and be brief and to the point today. Maybe someday I wished phone calls would come back at least once or twice a season just so that our voices could be heard rather than confining it to New Year's Eve...
