Yup, I was surprised as well. I wonder if that's going to pop up more over the next few weeks. I can't remember if colorized versions showed up during the last cycle through.

Just letting everyone know that TCM has resumed airing cartoons on Saturday mornings for several weeks at this point. Tomorrow (10/10/20) they will be airing "Red Hot Riding Hood" and "Alona the Sarong Seas" at 8AM and 10AM respectively.

They've recently entered the color Famous Studios era of the Popeye cartoons and although they aired the A.A.P. prints of Her Honor the Mare and The Marry-Go-Round weeks prior, they aired the restored version of W'ere on Our Way to Rio this past weekend:

Give and Tyke aired in its proper CinemaScope format yesterday morning. I was honestly expecting this one to be in pan-and-scan like it is on the Boomerang app.

You know it's kinda miserable when we're documenting when this show actually airs something restored. Who knew the Fish Puppet show would be something we would all look forward too

Could've been worse. They could've aired the cinemascope cartoons cropped like that fish puppet show did.

What's Buzzin' Buzzard (which coincidentally aired on MeTV today as well) and A Peep in the Deep aired restored.

I assume the rest of '40s Popeye will air restored on the channel, so I probably won't report about them unless something changes.

I'd agree with you there but that's proof TCM doesn't care. With the cinemascope cropping, even if annoying, it does show their making some effort to presenting them. With them airing it without a crop it shows me they don't care

TCM aired the restored version of "Rocket To Mars" this morning. Surprisingly, it was uncut...the Japanese soldier 'behind the 8-ball' was left intact. I admit, I wouldn't have expected that, but the Popeye's are airing right next to the old 40's Batman serials, which have their share of stereotypes as well.

It's TCM. They rarely show anything edited. They know their audience.

Well, except for when they show colorized cartoons. And censored cartoons.

Does MeTV have non-exclusive rights to the classic Warner-owned cartoons? I thought them getting broadcast rights meant that they couldn't be shown on Boomerang or TCM anymore.

Late reply but I assume MeTV's contract has little to no bearing on whatever Boomerang and TCM does with the library. If anything, MeTV's contract probably only pertains to national over-the-air broadcast rights and does not affect the cable channels.

Some notes from this morning (September 18)

The copy of Little Johnny Jet that aired today was the same transfer as seen on the Academy Awards Animation Collection, albeit with the title-safe borders removed.

There was a last-minute schedule change with Popeye where Wigwam Whoopee got replaced with Tar with a Star, despite the former being listed on the scheduled for literally a month.

I'm somewhat confused as to why they would replace Wigwam Whoopee. Since TCM is more of an adult network, it doesn't make sense if it was replaced due to content because they've aired both I Yam What I Yam and Big Chief Ugh-Amugh-Ugh in the past, and pretty much all of these cartoons are uncut whenever they pop up (like last week with Spinach vs Hamburgers). It doesn't make sense if it was replaced due to time constraints because this cartoon is of average length and even the longer one-reelers usually air as scheduled, like Klondike Casanova and the aforementioned Spinach vs Hamburgers. I already own this cartoon on Blu-ray but I still enjoyed the idea of seeing it air on TV (also it's a better cartoon than Tar with a Star). I wonder if it's a coincidence that this cartoon was removed from the Boomerang app roughly two weeks ago, so it may have been on the brains of the people at Turner.
