Quite unprecedented! Disney is set to release Saludos Amigos and The Three Caballeros on Blu-ray at long last exclusively through the Disney Movie Club:

While excellent news, if Saludos Amigos is that censored smeary master currently available on the DisneyLife UK streaming service, I'll have to pass.

It looks like I won't even be able to import this at a non-inflated price off a reseller anyway.

(If anyone cares, the new HD master also on the streaming service for The Three Caballeros, while degrained, doesn't look too bad, until you get to the waxy live-action parts. I'd rate it on par with Fun and Fancy Free.)

Wasn't "Saludos Amigos" unedited when it was released as a bonus feature on the "Walt & El Groupo" DVD?

Well it's about time after almost 3 years of the wait for this.

And I do hope it's the uncensored version of Saludos Amigos as seen on the Walt & El Groupo DVD. I also hope Disney found the original RKO titles of the film to restore for this Blu Ray.

I left a comment on DMC's Facebook page about including the uncut version of Saludos Amigos. Awaiting response.

FTR, the new HD master on DisneyLife still has the reissue titles, the only difference is the Buena Vista logo been omitted.

We do have an idea of what the real original end title looks like since it shows up on the standalone reissue of "Aquarela do Brasil":

Could the versions, of the 2 movies, that Disney picked for this DMC Blu-ray be
from the 4K-restored versions of the Disney films that Disney has stored?

& because "Saludos Amigos" in the "Walt & El Grupo" DVD is uncut-&-uncensored,
maybe this movie could be uncut-&-uncensored in this DMC Blu-ray.

I need to double check on this but the master of Saludos Amigos on the Walt & El Grupo DVD is identical to the master used for the the 2008 2-movie reissue DVD (not sure about the original Gold Classic Collection DVD), the only difference being the censorship. This master appears to have been done in HD as it used to be on iTunes apparently.

I suspect the newer HD master currently making the rounds is derived from the nitrate 4k scans. I'm unsure whether an uncensored (or even less smeary) version of this new remaster exists.

But of course Saludos Amigos is the same reissue print as seen on previous releases, except without the Buena Vista logo which was replaced by a black background that still played the opening theme. And it still uses the standard "The End A Walt Disney Production" end title instead of the real closing titles as seen on the standalone reissue of "Aquarela do Brasil which you can see on YT of course.

Great news indeed but the screenshots suggest it's still smeary like the streaming version I have seen:

http://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.php?p=14688257&postcount=341

Granted some screenshots look better than others and it's no substitute for "watching in motion". The live action shots actually look great (considering it's 16mm) but at the animated parts, look at the ink-lines, the writing on the postcard shot, the musical notes in the BG on the Aquarela do Brasil title card etc. Have no regrets at preemptively declaring this transfer is as bad as what they did to the animated sequences of "The Reluctant Dragon".
