Here are some stills from an IB Technicolor print of 'Pinocchio' (35mm, 1964 release I believe) as well as Ib prints (16mm) of 'Santa's Workshop' and some of the 'I'm No Fool' shorts. These are pretty good examples of what the color generally looked like on these films in Technicolor prints. The earlier Ib prints of Pinocchio in 16mm blu-track are slightly different, but I like the color on this particular release...

These are MAGNIFICENT!!!!
Thank you!

Hope someday Disney releases them like this! WITH grain!

I assume the Pinocchio print has the Buena Vista logo in the beginning and not the RKO, right?

Yes.. it the Buena Vista logo. I'd like to borrow a 16mm Blu-track with the RKo someday; sadly haven't been able to as of yet...

BTW, you mentioned warpings on the print earlyer (at the beginning of reel 3). Any way to correct this (if possible) ?

"The earlier Ib prints of Pinocchio in 16mm blu-track are slightly different, but I like the color on this particular release..." How slightly different are we talking about ?

Keep up with the good work

Amazing STILLS!

I bet those 'official' blu-ray releases are having their nose grown when telling about their restoration!

Say, would you check your email? I have some questions for you!

Would it be possible to post a screenshot from the scene with the warping "issue"?
I don't understand how this could look..

The screenshots has very identical colors to the 2009 Blu Ray and DVD releases.

I can tell right away that the print of Santa's Workshop is the re-release print with the sunburst Mickey Mouse head (as seen on the Walt Disney Christmas VHS release which I have). Thank goodness the DVD release uses the original opening and closing titles instead.

How I wish Disney would already release all the I'm No Fool and Human Animal shorts with Jiminy Cricket on DVD and/or Blu Ray in remastered quality.

Notice in 3rd comparison how luminous is the shot.
I always loved that and it's as I remember it! (not from the theater of course)

English is not my native language, but from what I understand "to restore" means to bring something to its original state.
Watching all the Disney animation films like they were shown in theaters, like the Pinocchio here and the Gulliver's travels Bluray, would be a dream come true for me!

Great to see those educational shorts, looks like I can retire some of the grotty VHS-sourced copies I have.

The timing on that Santa's Workshop print looks completely different from two copies I have on DVD: an edited, unremastered version leaning very slightly towards yellow and the overly-pinkish Treasures restoration (the restorations on the animated Wave 6 Treasures had some really iffy colour timing IMO). Based on the very short clips I've seen, the new restoration that aired on TCM last year looks closer, colour-wise, but I'll reserve full judgement until I can track down a full copy.

Oh BTW Steve, check your PMs (just disregard the part about Willie Whopper, it arrived in time for Halloween! Thanks...)

Something to consider about IB Technicolor prints is the variance of color. I've found while trying to match prints that sometimes you find two prints with pretty identical color, but I've also seen prints from the same release with some variance. Ib prints have a color shift every 10 minutes- sometimes it's VERY noticeable between reels, sometimes not. I've heard from some of the older collectors that the quality of Ib Technicolor prints quality-control-wise changed in the early 70s through the last handful of years using the process ( I think 'Goldfather 2' was the last official IB release besides lots of Hong Kong films). Sometimes tech prints have a reel a little redder, a little greener... sometimes a little more yellow.

Of course, these were done to make a legal preservation copy of the film rather than any other reason....

Steve, what a great way to slyly let the proverbial "cat" outta the bag. This makes me sooooooo happy. It will be the first and maybe only time people like myself will be able to experience this movie like you did in the theater. The real color, the grain and texture of the background paintings not being ruined etc. On my 70 in tv with the lights out and sitting a touch closer to the screen will be pure BLISS. The extras are amazing looking too. Please tell me this is going out within 4 weeks! Pretty please! 🙂 Now I really have a reason to buy that hard cover Pinocchio book Ive been holding off on getting. I cannot say enough to you how much this kicks ass man.
