I'm surprised to see that The Prize Pest originally had the same Porky and Daffy headshots from Riff Raffy Daffy. Too bad WB didn't get aware of this when they released the cartoon on the Super Stars Daffy Duck DVD back in 2010.

Makes me wonder is other Porky/Daffy shorts like Fool Coverage used it.

No, it doesn't. The original opening and closing titles for that cartoon have appeared on the Super Stars Porky Pig DVD and it doesn't have the Porky and Daffy headshots from Riff Raffy Daffy. It just has the regular red and blue opening rings.

Honestly, I really wish this kind of thing wasn't public information on a forum like this .

you guys should notify trusted members of the animation community (on a private
message) in case it falls into the wrong hands.

While I enjoyed seeing the Porky/Daffy headshot on "The Prize Pest", it's not exactly on the level of Thad Komorowski's and David Gerstein's discoveries (numerous original Tom and Jerry titles, original titles for "House Hunting Mice", "Tweetie Pie", and "I Taw A Puddy Tat").

I just recently bought two Famous Popeyes on ebay--they arrived today! [popeye]

An IB Tech print of "Baby Wants A Battle" and an IB Tech workprint of "Assault and Flattery"!

Both have original titles!


I love my Technicolor collection---I don't buy faded prints unless they were originally processed in Eastman like a TV show broadcast print or if it's an uncommon version (If i was allowed to buy film prints back in the day---I would have opted out for a red NTA print that had a missing sequence intact of the Famous Screen Song "Short'nin' Bread"!)


I don't know if Warners is EVER going to release Famous Popeyes---with stuff like "Pop Pie A La Mode", and the continued delay of the CG Popeye movie, they may not have a financial incentive to release them.

Wait, you successfully bid on that "Assault and Flattery" IB Tech workprint!? (Not that I bid on it...)

How do those workprints end up in some seller's hand? Unless the seller in question is somehow related to somebody who worked at Famous...

Anything of note that's different from the final cartoon (which, really, is a cheater cartoon), besides the lack of sound?

Here's the listing for the aforementioned work print of Assault and Flattery. Interesting piece, and extremely rare I would think. Note the lack of a soundtrack and that the spaces between the film frames are clear.

Since it is decomposing (i.e. "vinegar syndrome"), make sure you do not store it in the same place as your healthy films. If the acetic acid fumes are allowed to get to the others then it could ignite decomposition in them, too!

Anybody want an abysmally faded Eastman print (35mm) of The Brothers Carry-Mouse-Off ?

How about a faded Fuji print of Wee-Willie Wildcat ? [barney] (It looks better than the Eastman above, at least.)

No way it just annoys me to look at when looking for rarer material. It's worthless, it's crap, it's red. The only reason it'd be worth buying is to own it in it's original full-screen.

As for [barney]--I'd get a nitrate print with original titles in IB Technicolor before thinking about bidding on it, besides if I want to buy MGM cartoons, I'd buy an HB T&J or a Tex Avery cartoon. (in IB Tech and nitrate of course, or an old Blue Track 16mm print)

Well, I found this print of Get Rich Quick  (1951) with original titles, but the copyright says 1947 when this obviously came from Goofy's "George Geef" era.

Bidding on "The Prize Pest" has ended. I already notified Jerry Beck about it yesterday, and he gave his thanks.

Unfortunately, given eBay's anonymity policies, I am not sure if Mr. Beck was successful.

Today's Animation Anecdotes on Cartoon Research features the Porky-Daffy headshot from "The Prize Pest".

It seems to be the same picture that was featured during the eBay bidding.

I think this thread should be hidden from users that don't have accounts, if that's even possible. People might come to this forum just to try and snag the stuff listed here.

Sad to think that some people who visit the forum may have no respect for the likes of Jerry Beck. Either that, or they're too greedy to imagine the thought that a potential super-rare print with lost footage, an original opening, etc. (or even a "lost" film) could belong to anybody other than themselves.

I'd like to see Lickety Splat being restored, by just looking at the preview screenshots it looks much better than the faded NTSC master with ghosting issues CN always aired.
