Just when you thought the Boomerang channel was stuck in and endless programming loop, they actual pull out a few surprises. Classic Popeye shorts and the Flintstones have begun airing this week. An hour of the Flintstones from 9p-10p, stretched horizontally in Boomerang's usual attempt to simulate widescreen, and Popeye shorts from 4a-5a. Looks like a mix of Fleischer and Famous stuff, and at least so far, as a pleasant surprise, broadcast in their proper (unstretched) aspect ratio with bars on the sides.

Since the Popeyes were taken down from HBO Max and not everyone gets MeTV, this is a nice little chance for more people to get to see them on a regular basis. 4am is obviously "set your DVR" territory, but certainly better than nothing.

According to my cable TV box's guide, this past Monday night's block of Popeye cartoons on Boomerang included "Spinach Fer Britain". I wonder if they actually aired it? TNT only showed the redrawn version on Memorial Day and Veteran's Day. Cartoon Network only showed the B & W version as part of Toon Heads and "The Popeye Show". (Even though "Herr Meets Hare", "Plane Daffy", "Daffy the Commando" and "Russian Rhapsody" regularly aired as part of "Tom and Jerry's Funhouse" on WTBS in the late 1980's. But not "Blitz Wolf". I watched that for the first time in 1995 on a VHS tape called "Cartoons at War" that I ordered from Barnes & Noble's mail order catalog.)

Yes, they did air "Spinach fer Britain", I saw it. I DVR a few Popeyes each morning to watch later that day, it's a nice lazy way to catch up on them without having to put a disc in.

The only colorized redrawn Fleischer I've seen so far was The Jeep, which also ran that way on TCM. As for the Famous shorts, Boomerang's package is a mix of some WAC restorations from the 40's and old AAP's from the 40's and 50's.

Boomerang has tweaked their schedule a little, adding a couple of recent TV series with older characters on weekends. The Sylvester & Tweety Mysteries is airing at 6:00 PM and 6:30 PM on Saturday and Sunday, replacing two episodes of Scooby Doo, Where Are You?. And What's New, Scooby Doo? is airing at 1:00 PM and 1:30 PM on Saturday and Sunday. (I don't know what that replaced.)

Also, starting tonight, Popeye moves from 4:00 AM to 1:00 AM.

EDIT: Popeye moving from 4:00 AM to 1:00 AM is only on weekdays. Popeye still airs at 4:00 AM on Saturday and Sunday.

More tweaks to Boomerang's Saturday and Sunday schedule:

The Sylyester and Tweety Mysteries moves from 6:00 PM and 6:30 PM to 4:00 PM and 4:30 PM.
Taz-Mania airs at 5:00 PM and 5:30 PM.
What's New, Scooby Doo? moves from 1:00 PM and 1:30 PM to 6:00 PM and 6:30 PM.

Also, tomorrow night (July 23rd) Boomerang is airing Jabberjaw from midnight until 6:00 AM. (I have no idea why.)

This week Boomerang is airing Jabberjaw at 6:00 PM and 6:30 PM. And 8 randomly selected episodes are on my cable TV's "On Demand" channel. (I don't know why they didn't put up the entire series.)

Changes to Boomerang's weeknight schedule:

Top Cat airs at 6:00 PM.
The Yogi Bear Show (still only Yogi's segments from The Huckleberry Hound Show) airs from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM.
The Flintstones airs at 8:00 PM, 8:30 PM and 9;00 PM.
The Jetsons (including the 1980's episodes) airs at 9:30 PM, 10:00 PM and 10:30 PM.
Popeye airs from 11:00 PM to 12:00 AM.
Tom and Jerry airs from 12:00 AM to 1:00 AM.
Boomerang Theater (usually a direct-to-video Scooby Doo movie or a direct-to-video Tom and Jerry movie) airs from 1:00 AM to 2:30 AM.
Wacky Races airs at 2:30 AM.
The Powerpuff Girls airs at 3:00 AM and 3:30 AM.
Captain Planet and the Planeteers airs at 4:30 AM.
Looney Tunes airs from 5:00 AM to 6:00 AM.

And it looks like there have been changes to Boomerang's Saturday night and Sunday night schedule, but I haven't been so good about checking my cable TV box's guide every day, so that will have to wait until next weekend. All I can tell you now is that Popeye has moved from 4:00 Am to 1:00 AM.

EDIT: It doesn't look like there have been any other changes to Boomerang's Saturday night and Sunday night schedule besides moving Popeye from 4:00 AM to 1:00 AM.

Some minor differences in tonight's Boomerang schedule:

Boomerang Theater airs from 1:00 AM to 2:00 AM.
Scooby Doo, Where Are You? airs at 2:00 AM and 2:30 AM.
Wacky Races airs at 3:00 AM.

Last night (August 18th) Boomerang aired Jabberjaw at 2:30 AM and 3:00 AM instead of Wacky Races.

Top Cat didn't last very long. Tonight Wacky Races is airing at 6:00 PM instead.

Other changes to Boomerang's weekday schedule:

The Flintstone Kids airs at 10:00 AM, replacing an episode of A Pup Named Scooby Doo.

Tonight (August 20th) after Boomerang Theater, The Tom and Jerry Show airs at 2:30 AM and 3:00 AM and Jabberjaw airs at 3:30 AM.

Tomorrow night after Boomerang Theater, The Tom and Jerry Show airs from 2:00 AM and 2:30 AM AM and Jabberjaw airs at 3:00 AM and 3:30 AM.

(It looks like Jabberjaw is finally getting some respect.)

Some minor tweaks to Boomerang's weeknight schedule:

If Boomerang Theater is two hours long, it's followed by an episode of Laff-A-Lympics. If Boomerang Theater is only an hour and a half long, it's followed by an episode of Top Cat, then an episode of Laff-A-Lympics. (Also, this past Tuesday's Boomerang Theater was The Good, the Bad and Huckleberry Hound and tonight's Boomerang Theater is Rockin' With Judy Jetson. So it looks like Boomerang Theater is branching out beyond Scooby Doo and Tom & Jerry.)

This past Tuesday (September 12th), Wacky Races aired from 6:00 PM to 6:30 PM. Since then Jabberjaw has aired from 6:00 PM to 6:30 PM.

In relation to this thread in a way, Cartoon Network recently aired Yogi Bear for the first time since it left back in 2004.

They also recently aired Scooby-Doo, Where Are You? as the last show of the day before signing off.

It's Scoobtober on Boomerang and Cartoon Network. Lots of Scooby Doo airing until the end of October. Just about every TV series from Scooby Doo, Where Are You? through Scooby Doo and Guess Who? on Boomerang. (But only one TV series with "the most hated cartoon character of all time".) So The Flintstones, Top Cat and some of Tom & Jerry and Looney Tunes are gone from Boomerang's schedule (hopefully only temporarily), Be Cool, Scooby Doo has replaced A Pup Named Scooby Doo and Yogi Bear is now airing earlier, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM.

Cartoon Network is airing Scooby Doo and Guess Who? and (at least on weekends) Scooby Doo movies. SCOOB! aired this afternoon from 3:00 to 5:00 and Happy Halloween, Scooby Doo! will be airing tomorrow morning from 8:00 to 9:45.

There's quite a bit of Scooby Doo on my cable TV's "on demand" channel right now as well. Again, just about every TV series (though not every episode of every series) and over two dozen direct-to-video movies. (And over half of the movies are free.)

Cartoon Network (weekdays):
What's New, Scooby Doo? airs at 4:30 PM.
Scooby Doo and Guess Who? airs from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM.

Boomerang (weekdays):

Be Cool, Scooby Doo! airs at 10:30 AM and 5:00 PM.
What's New, Scooby Doo? airs at 5:30 PM.
The New Scooby Doo Movies airs from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
Scooby Doo and Guess Who? airs from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM and from 3:00 AM to 4:00 AM. (If Boomerang Theater is only an hour-and-a-half long, Scooby Doo and Guess Who? airs from 2:30 AM to 4:00 AM.)
Scooby Doo, Where Are You? airs from 8:00 PM to 9:30 PM.
Boomerang Theater airs from 1:00 AM to 3:00 AM. (And I assume it will be all Scooby Doo movies this month.)

Boomerang (weekends):

The 13 Ghosts of Scooby Doo airs from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
What's New, Scooby Doo? airs from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM (which is the usual current programming).
Scooby Doo, Where Are You? airs from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM (which is the usual current programming).
Scooby Doo and Guess Who? airs from 3:00 AM to 4:00 AM.

(I had to do this with the TV on because I couldn't remember it all.)

The Flintstones and A Pup Named Scooby Doo have returned to Boomerang, in their old timeslots. But Yogi Bear is still airing earlier (and I think Boomerang is now airing Yogi's segments from The Yogi Bear Show, not just from The Huckleberry Hound Show, including "Yogi's Birthday Party") and now Jabberjaw and Scooby's All-Star Laff-A-Lympics are off the schedule.

Be Cool, Scooby Doo! now only airs at 5:00 PM.
What's New, Scooby Doo? is still airing at 5:30 PM.
The New Scooby Doo Movies is still airing from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM
Scooby Doo, Where Are You? now airs from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated airs after Boomerang Theater, either from 2:30 AM to 4:00 or 3:00 AM to 4:00 AM, depending on the length of Boomerang Theater. (If Boomerang Theater airs from 1:00 AM to 2:45 AM, they've used Wacky Races as filler.)

I was wrong about Cartoon Network airing only Scooby Doo movies on weekends. Tim Burton's Corpse Bride aired this past Sunday. (And it aired again yesterday.)

EDIT: And Beetlejuice is airing on Cartoon Network this Sunday. October 22nd.

Tonight on Boomerang, instead of Boomerang Theater:

Scooby Doo and the Spooky Scarecrow (2014) airs at 1:00 AM.
Scooby Doo Spooky Games (2012) airs at 1:30 AM.
Scooby Doo Mecha Mutt Menace (2014) airs at 2:00 AM.

EDIT: I watched all three specials. The image in my cable TV box's guide for Scooby Doo and the Spooky Scarecrow shows Shaggy wearing his Blue Falcon costume from the direct-to-video movie Scooby Doo Mask of the Blue Falcon. But Shaggy doesn't wear the costume in Scooby Doo and the Spooky Scarecrow. And Fred Flintstone is in the image in my cable TV box's listing for Scooby Doo Spooky Games! But Fred Flintstone isn't in Scooby Doo Spooky Games.

Tomorrow (October 28th) on Boomerang:

4 episodes of Scooby Doo, Where Are You? air from 6:00 AM to 8:00 AM.
4 episodes of A Pup Named Scooby Doo air from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM.
4 episodes of What's New, Scooby Doo? air from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
4 episodes of Scooby Doo and Guess Who? air from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM.
6 episodes of Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated air from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
2 episodes of The New Scooby Doo Movies air from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
All 13 episodes of The 13 Ghosts of Scooby Doo air from 7:00 PM to 1:30 AM.
Scooby Doo and the Curse of the 13th Ghost airs from 1:30 AM to 3:15 AM. (I've watched part of this. Maurice LaMarche really nails Vincent Price.)
The "Cartoon Feud" episode of Teen Titans Go! (in which the Teen Titans and the Scooby gang compete against each other on Family Feud, if you can believe that) airs from 3:15 AM to 3:30 AM.
5 episodes of Be Cool, Scooby Doo! air from 3:30 AM to 6:00 AM.

Sunday (October 29th) on Boomerang:

12 episodes of Scooby Doo, Where Are You? air from 7:00 PM to 1:00 AM.
Scooby Doo Frankencreepy airs from 1:00 AM to 2:30 AM.
7 episodes of Be Cool, Scooby Doo! air from 2:30 AM to 6:00 AM.

It looks like Scoobtober on Boomerang ended early. Boomerang is basically back to their pre-October programming (including continuing to air Jabberjaw), with some tweaks like adding Yo Yogi! and a second episode of The Flintstone Kids on weekday mornings. I'll wait until October is over to post a full update.
