Two observations about Northwest Hounded Police

There is a brief cleanup error where the Wolf's dot moving from San Francisco to the Great Lakes is erased. You can see some faint marks moving across the screen where it should be. The dot reappears while he hops across the lakes and enters Canada.

Also a production observation. I'm not sure if this is documented anywhere, but I think the one shot of the police chief standing next to the Wolf's wanted poster may have been reshot at some point, most likely for the reissue. The colors are somewhat cooler than the following group shot, and it looks like the poster may have originally mentioned some kind of reward, with red text indicating a number and some additional red text underneath it.

The text in the publicity frame seems to correspond to the red text.

So like Shooting of Dan McGoo, they likely just reanimated the scene with the poster in full view to lose the O.P.A. ceiling price joke.

Looks like that made it into the original theatrical poster as well!

An interesting thing I noticed when watching Steve Stanchfield's scan of a 35mm IB Technicolor reissue print is a pop (indicative of a splice) in the soundtrack immediately preceding and following the scene showing the poster, without corresponding splices in the print, which makes one wonder if the soundtrack was revised for the reissue as well. Don't have a copy of Vol. 3 yet but I'm guessing they likely "restored" those pops out.

Kinda Off Topic: Where did you fans buy this blu ray from? I ordered the blu ray from Target the week of release date and today they sent me another delayed notice(for the third time). Amazon listed the blu ray in stock but they have delayed my Warner Archive orders in the past . So, I rather not deal with them. I know the dvds seem to be in stock at various websites.

I ordered from Amazon, but was hesitant for the same reasons you are. However, at the time I ordered no one else had it available to pre-order, so I took the chance. Turns out I had an unused gift card balance that was applied to my order, and I went with standard shipping as I didn’t deem it necessary to get it fast. They surprised me and had my order delivered to me on release day.

I ordered from Amazon.

I have Amazon Prime, so it took three days for my Blu-ray to arrive. I'll probably wait and watch it this weekend though.

I'm hoping Bob and Thad review the set on their Cartoon Logic podcast. I enjoyed their reviews of the two previous volumes.

Another Amazon person here. No Prime, and I pre-ordered pretty late and it showed it day one though. I think it’s sold out on Amazon right now, or it was

I'm with S.C.
I used Amazon, and I don't have Prime. Over the past month I ordered the Woody Woodpecker, Tex Avery/Night Shift WAC blus and the Bugs Bunny 80th set. In each case the discs came crazy fast and I never chose a shipping method that cost me anything.

I'm not necessarily mister "Rah Rah I love Amazon", but my recent purchases have gone very well.

Maybe Amazon stepped up their game a bit. Who knows?

People, get the new volume of Screwball Classics. The restorations on here are by far the best.
Just compare the differences:
Segment from "The Early Bird Dood It!" (Turner Print)

The restored version from the Blu-Ray (original title recreation by The Lion CInematic Channel:

This restoration is probably the best thing I've laid my eyes on. Heck, they're even better than the Looney Tunes restorations, of all things!!

Didn’t know if this was post should go on the METV thread, but I thought it would be more appropriate here. METV’s broadcast of NORTH HOUNDED POLICE had “USA to CANADA dot” gag complete. It’s too bad that Warner screwed this up on the blu ray.

...but I'm guessing the print shown on MeTV had bad colors and other problems?

My cable provider only broadcasts MeTV in SD. So I can’t make a fair HD to HD comparison. But I think the cartoon overall looks way better on the blu-ray then on the standard definition broadcast of MeTV.

MeTV is using the SD remaster from the Droopy DVD, which explains why it’s intact

I made an M3U playlist with the Tex Avery Screwball Classics shorts in chronological order.

https://drive.google.com...IYkPXZY/view?usp=sharing

I got the 3 blu-rays fully saved to disk, in 3 folders, named after the original/default disc labels:

TEX_AVERY_SCREWBALL_VOL1
TEX_AVERY_SCREWBALL_VOL2
TEX_AVERY_SCREWBALL_VOL3

Once the M3U file is in the same folder as these 3 bluray folders, just open the M3U with the video player of your preference.

I haven't tested in smart TVs yet. Smart TV video players may require absolute paths but that's simple to adjust.
I always come to TTTP in Exile in the hope of finding news about Warner announcing Tex Avery Collection.

Vol. 3 is awesome. It's easily my favorite of all volumes. Not only the restorations look gorgeous and back to Vol. 1 standards, but Vol. 3 also has easily the best selection of Avery's cartoons compared to Vol. 2 and 1.

The amazing quality of this set is why such a glaring error in Northwest Hounded Police, and specially with this cartoon being such an absolute masterpiece, annoys me so much! I really hope we someday get a restoration fixing this! It always annoys and distracts me so much whenever I watch this cartoon!

But it will probably still take some years for a restoration fixing this mistake to happen. Probably only when it's time to do 4K restorations of these cartoons, and that might take over 10 years.

This was a 4K restoration job. That's why it's a problem. It likely won't ever get revisited for many decades. If at all. Which is why Rabbit of Seville has been at the wrong speed for 20 years, Back Alley Oproar's HD master has had glitched animation, several classic Tom & Jerrys including two Oscar-winners look like garbage, Fast and Furry-Ous and Long-Haired Hare have bad DNR... etcetera, etcetera.

Also, "Somewhere in Dreamland" has color flickering problems during the begining in the new print.
