Did you all see the newest releases of HBO Max Looney Tunes shorts? Really good, they somehow outdid themselves imo. Shorts like Pitcher Porky and Chain Gangster blew me away! Really good stuff, what did the rest of y'all think?

I've been catching up on the batch since they dropped yesterday, and I've been enjoying them! We finally got to see the context to some promotional pics that were released last year, and that's cool!

My favorites so far are the Porky/Daffy outings. They go well together like Laurel and Hardy, and I can tell the crew loved working on these! I also enjoyed "Duck Duck Boom", a Daffy/Elmer short in the vein of Tex Avery's "Dumb-Hounded". "Chain Gangster" featured the return of Rocky and Mugsy, and that's one of the best I've seen so far.

That being said, some of these shorts do feel more...cruel than the previous batch. Holy cow, Sylvester gets it bad in these shorts. "Fully Vetted" is the example Thad mentioned on his Twitter, and I gotta say I agree with him. He went as far as indirectly comparing it to Famous Studios' Herman & Katnip cartoons! Normally, I don't mind extreme cartoon violence, but this one seemed...rather unnerving, even for a Warner cartoon. Especially the ending. Makes Clampett Tweety look like a saint.

Kitty Livin' was definitely the most bizarre of the bunch, and I still can't believe Full Vetted featured an onscreen act of suicide.

Oh, and Duck Duck Boom! mentioned the whole gun control issue that plagued the first batch.

Overall, a very fine bunch.

Yeesh. Maybe they should get someone like Paul Dini or Sholly Fisch to write the Sylvester and Tweety shorts, so they won't go too far next time.

Gonna diagree heavily: Mean spirit is cruelly funny. It so dark and surprisingly I had to laugh! Though Thad going on Facebook and saying it makes you laugh like 9/11 wasn't agreeable for me. Keep in mind one of my all time favorite Looney Tunes shorts is One Meat Brawl, which should give a bit of background as to me liking this kinda thing. It's a mean world, ya know?

I've been spending all day trying to figure out exactly why it doesn't tick for me, and I think it's because Sylvester is too sympathetic a character. One of my favorite Looney Tunes shorts is "The Ducksters", and I could say Daffy got what he had coming to him at the end. You could also say the same thing for "Chow Hound" ("This time, we didn't forget the gravy!"). I've also read this complaint in regards to shorts like "Fresh Airedale" and the Gene Deitch Tom & Jerry shorts: the sympathetic character doesn't get their comeuppance, or the sympathetic character is pushed so far that their injuries are no longer funny and are just disturbing. Don't get me wrong, though: there were more good shorts than bad ones. This one just stuck out in my mind due to Thad indirectly mentioning it on his Twitter.

The Road Runner shorts also fell flat for me for some reason. Can't really pinpoint why, though I will say it was cathartic for the Coyote to hold a Road Runner in his hands...even if it was for a brief, fleeting moment.

Cartune Addict mentioned this to me earlier today when I brought up the bit. I think it's less sympathy per say, but rather being able to understand when you're supposed too. This cartoon I think is meant to play purely laughs, without much thought for the character, the issue being is that character still has that dimension to him to hold sympathy. Regardless, I've liked every short so far

So I just found out that apparently the sound effects designer/editor for this series is none other than Kenneth Young. I wasn't very surprised, given that the sound effects in this series often felt a lot like "Rocko's Modern Life" or "The Angry Beaverrs" or "Garfield and Friends" and a few other shows Horta Editorial And Sound worked on in the 1990s, and Kenneth Young indeed worked at Horta Editorial during that time period (including on "Rocko's Modern Life," which I've often compared the sound effects in this series to!)

Regardless of thoughts on the shorts, I think everyone here can agree that the people on these are really talented!!!!!!

I agree Time. Regardless of anyone's opinions on the reboot, we can agree that these people working on these deserve the respect

Personally I only like the Sylvester and Tweety cartoons where Tweety is helpless or has no bodyguard. I don't like how with LT Cartoons it's both at the same time. He gets beaten up by everyone like he's Furball from Tiny Toon Adventures.

Honestly it's so difficult for me to sit through any of the Sylvester and Tweety cartoons because of how mean spirited they are.

Is anyone else keeping up with these? Batch 3 is out and there's a been a few odds and ends I haven't seen mentioned on here (The Christmas special and a couple of YouTube releases).

I've seen them all once and I like them enough to keep watching any new ones. I kind of wish there were more stand out episodes.
