the original MMC website has something interesting as part of their lost segments lists:
a live action version of A Cowboy Needs a Horse from the 1950's Mickey Mouse Club (a year before the animated short came out)
.

Also I was wondering if anyone knows where to watch the full One Hour In Wonderland from 1950? I can only find clips on youtube.

Taking a glimpse at The Blue Man of Morocco and remembering reading a pressbook for Sardinia, I noticed that the link to the former shows it in Academy ratio and the latter doesn't mention anything about Sardinia being shot in CinemaScope.

Which People & Places shorts were shot in CinemaScope? (There's not much information about the series online, and every article I've read erroneously states that every short, save the first one, utilized the process)

All but The Alaskan Eskimo were filmed in CinemaScope. But there were "Academy" versions created for the benefit of theaters that weren't equipped to show them that way, just as most other widescreen films of the time.

There's a full-frame version of Disneyland, U.S.A. floating on YouTube somewhere.

Interesting.....but aside from Men Against the Arctic and (for obvious reasons) Disneyland, U.S.A., I haven't seen any evidence that nearly every P&P short was made in CinemaScope (on IMDb, Siam's aspect ratio is even classified as 1.37:1 - the Academy ratio; some of the shorts' pages on D23's website make no mention of them being filmed in CinemaScope).

Leonard Maltin:
"When I was a kid, they used to show just the "Rite of Spring" seqence. in school. in science class!
I remember they thred up the 16mm projector and show us the "Rite of Spring" as a kind of instructional film on the creation of the earth.
(Laughs) That's rather extrodinary."

Extended cuts of Disney Movies

there was a time when Disney (and Anchor Bay) made restored exented cuts of Disney films

even Disney made extended "Special Edition" cuts of some of their animated Disney renissance films.

somewhere around the early to mid 2010's Disney quit doing that, and for most of their classic films that extended were back to their theatrical cuts.

Bedknobs and Broomsticks 25 Annversary edition 139 mins 1996 (LaserDisc 1996/VHS Disney DVD 2001/Disney DVD 2009) restoration director: Scott McQween

The Happiest Millionare Roadshow Cut 172 mins 1999 (Anchor Bay VHS DVD 1999/Disney DVD 2004)
http://articles.latimes....9/entertainment/ca-60536

Fantasia 60th Annversary Roadshow Cut 2000 124 mins (Disney DVD 2000/Disney Bluray and DVD 2010) restoration director: Scott McQween

added scenes with Deems Taylor's onscreen appearance and more footage of the orchrestra was restored. unforuntently the soundtrack for Deems voice was shortened for the 1946/1956 reissues.
so Cory Burton was brought in to redub Deems.

there was an attempt to make a longer version of Watcher in the Woods (1981)
more about it here:

Beauty and Beast Speical Edition 91 mins 2002
"Human Again" added

The Lion King Speical Edition 90 mins 2003
"Morning Report" added. (currently as a bonus feature)

Pochantas Speical Edition 84 mins 2005
"If I Never Knew You" (currently as a bonus feature)

In April of 1983 The Disney Channel was launched as preinium cable network

To me it was like PBS, it also had the Teletons and tollfree number.

it was branded as a Family Network. not only it had the older stuff from the Disney library, it also had shows and films accuired from other companies

and shows like
Good Morning Mickey, Donald Duck Presents, Dumbo's Circus, Welcome To Pooh Corner,
The Walt Disney Studio Showcase, Mouseterpiece Theater and DTV.

Short behind the scenes glimpes "Dateline Disney"

The Disney Channel magazines had schedules of the shorts, films, and shows that were on the network.

by 1996 Disney bought out ABC telvision, and Disney Channel became somthing of a NICK copycat.

the network had been segmented, Preschool shows in the morning (PlayHouse Disney), high noon and afternoon kid stuff (ZOOG Disney)

and at night, my favorite: (Vault Disney)
to me that's Disney Channel's version of Nick at Night

Satchmo Armstrong voice impersonator: "Hang out with your favorite freinds and you'll feel like a kid again,

you see, there is fun and laughter to be found, with Walt's adventures all around

Take a wild ride, take a wild ride, take a wild ride on Disney"

annoncer: Comming up Next inside Vault Disney

"It Hasn't Changed a bit" sadly that did not last long. in 2002 Vault Disney was no more.

Ann Sweeney had Disney Channel rebranded again, without the classics. (and worse it stayed that way.)

some of the stuff made for Disney Channel later on I like. Kim Possible, House of Mouse, Lilio and Stitch the series.

the sitcoms bleh.

even with that, (Long winded rant and ramble) the network nowadays to me is missing something and that is the Disney Classics from the Walt era, and post Walt Era.

so why can't the network be a mixter of both old and new? (sigh)

in recent news: Disney Channel and other Disney presance on cable will be no more,
starting in foreign countries. those networks will be gone in favor of the streaming service Disney+

You mean Academy Ratio version not flat as flat would indicate it was originally in 3-D which these cartoons were not.

I'm a little surprised they actually kept the "Spread out a little, folks. This is Cinemascope!" gag in the Academy version of "Grand Canyonscope". :P

I wonder, were all of these released simultaneously in fullscreen when they originally came out? Or were some cropped for later television broadcasts or theatrical reissues?

Disney's animated CinemaScope output, including Lady and the Tramp, was simultaneously produced in CinemaScope and "Academy" formats. But for some reason, while Academy versions of the shorts were included on various TV shows and home video releases, Lady and the Tramp got pan-and-scanned on video until the advent of DVD, and the true Academy version remains in the vault.

Hmmm... are you sure? I'm pretty sure I've heard more than once that the true Academy version of Lady and the Tramp DID get released on VHS/LaserDisc. In fact, this comment  on the Home Theater forum seems to confirm it:

Quote:

There was indeed an Academy Ratio version of Lady. This version was released in the 90’s on VHS and Laserdisc along with the CinemaScope version (I know because I have that VHS and the fact that this VHS is the Academy Ratio version is the primary reason I’m holding onto it, along with the 90’s Fantasia tape with Deems Taylor’s actual voice and a more accurate approximation of the original Fantasound mix).

Another commenter who owns the LaserDisc even talks about compositing differences between the Academy and Cinemascope versions in one scene (scroll down here ).
