Out of curiosity, I was checking TCM's online schedule to see what the next "Treasures From The Disney Vault" lineup would be (didn't find it at the moment). While doing so, I stumbled upon a random MGM Cartoon airing on June 2nd! And I thought, "Hey, this is pretty cool!" This got me thinking though, that perhaps this wasn't just a one-time thing, and that maybe they were airing more cartoons every Saturday morning. Turns out I was right! They've been doing so since at least March 10th too! Popeyes, Droopys, one-shot MGM toons, even Tom and Jerry!

Great! I guess I'll wake up at around the 8:00AM mark this Saturday and turn on TCM....

I posted this a couple of weeks ago on another thread. I have Direct TV and on their program guide it now lists "The Tex Avery Show" on Saturday mornings on TCM for 23 minutes--maybe 3 Tex cartoons? We can hope. I know the first few MGM cartoons have been Tex.

Oh good, the variety of MGM cartoons on TV again which I hadn't seen in years.

Interesting that your Direct TV guide lists The Tex Avery Show on TCM - my AT&T U-Verse guide just shows the main feature presentation, and makes absolutely no mention of cartoons on the schedule (guess I'll have to fast-forward through my DVR recording to find them on Saturday! :P). I'd love to see that be true though! :)

Unfortunately, no shorts today due to a special Memorial Day War-Themed Feature Film Marathon.

Also of note, this may or may not be the final month that the Popeye shorts are broadcast on TCM. While the Tarzan movies continue to air in the 10AM timeslot, the TCM schedule currently does not list any Popeye cartoons after May 19th, 2018. I'd still say record the Tarzan movies anyway, as they may still end up airing more Popeye cartoons anyways.

I've been DVRing those shorts on TCM and they never appear in the recording. I tried waiting to see the short after the film last week (9:00 A.M.- (9:30 A.M.) but the cartoon never aired. Only the next scheduled film. Did the cartoons actually air?

I have the same DVR problems too. mainly I think part of the blame can probably go to TV Guide. couple of problems here and there, the TV Guide gets some of start order of the programs at the wrong spots, sometimes they do it on time. Before the cartoon is shown the TV age rating screen is shown. also after the cartoon short gets shown the movie follows after with out the TV age rating screen.

The cartoons are airing so far at exactly 8:00 and 10:00 though that is not what my Direct TV schedule shows so I have just been DVRing the entire time frame from 8-11:30.

Just an fyi for those who recorded this week's (April 28th) shorts: The Popeye short did air this week, but for whatever reason, it aired immediately after the Tarzan movie, rather than before the Tarzan movie like it has been the past few weeks. The MGM short (which I didn't realize was a Happy Harmonies cartoon - nice to see one on TV again, haven't seen once since Boomerang stopped playing their MGM cartoon block years ago!) played right at 8AM as usual.

Also, while not a cartoon, an "Our Gang" short played right after a commercial break following the Popeye short! I thought that may interest some folks here. 🙂

Jeez, the months just keep flying by! :P

Just a reminder: Next week, as far as I can tell, there will not be any cartoon shorts playing on TCM. Just to be sure though, I'd recommend recording the movies playing from 6:15AM ET - 12PM ET that day, just in case they decide to sneak some in there (maybe some Private Snafu or other war-themed cartoons?). I'll be doing so, and will report back next Saturday if there was any.

Also, it would seem that the Popeye cartoons will be continuing in June after all! Hooray for Popeye! [popeye]

However, before we get to that, TCM's regular schedule will be pre-empted during the month of August for their annual "Summer Under The Stars" event. This likely means that there won't be any cartoons on TCM during the month of August (I'll still likely be taping the timeslots they're normally featured in, just in case they decide to slip one in). As I figured, the Popeye cartoons are indeed continuing to be broadcast over on TCM right before their Tarzan feature film presentations! Today's was "The Dance Contest" from 1934.

Unfortunately, the TCM schedule hasn't added listings for the Popeye cartoons for the rest of July yet, so I guess I'll just be adding them on to the post above this one as the month rolls on by!

A bit surprising the July schedule is listing the MGM cartoons but not the Popeye cartoons. It doesn't make sense.

Yeah, definitely agree. Normally their schedules show both in advance. Thankfully, it looks like they've finally added the Popeye cartoons to the schedule for the remainder of July! I've updated the July schedule post with the new info. :)

Just a reminder: TCM's Saturday Morning broadcasts of classic cartoons will likely be on hiatus throughout the month of August, due to TCM's annual "Summer Under The Stars" event. I'll be recording the 8AM - 11:30AM timeslots just to be safe (I also recommend doing this to all who watch the cartoons as well), and will report back here if TCM slips in any cartoons during these timeslots.

For those of you keeping score, they aired an edited version of Henpecked Hoboes on 9/15. I don't know if anyone's expectation was that TCM was airing uncut versions, but it appears that they are not.

I noticed an odd jump to the next scene while I was watching it as well, but it didn't even occur to me that it was a broadcast edit. Shame that it was edited, but I guess that was the only print of the short they had at hand for broadcast. Oh well. :/
