Reviews and Comments

From Billy37 :

"Hold Anything" is the third entry in the ever-popular Looney Tunes series. Early Looney Tunes cartoons like this one feature a simply designed, humanoid character named Bosko. The synopsis of this cartoon is minimal; Bosko, with the assistance of some animal friends, take part in the construction of a building set to a musical score. Later in the cartoon, he sneaks away from his work to visit his girlfriend, Honey. The cartoon does include a group of several (mice-sized) Mickey Mouse look alikes. This makes sense as Hugh Harman and Rudolph Ising, who were responsible for the Warner Bros. cartoons at the time, were ex-Disney animators. One of the unlucky mice is involved with the crudest gag in the cartoon. Bosko is waving a saw so it could make music while the mouse is losing his balance on top of it. The mouse somehow decapitates himself and he struggles to attach his head back on his body. Thank goodness the mouse survived, but yikes, the joke was horrifying. Another gag included Bosko falling onto the ground and he separates into several "mini Boskos." A similar gag was seen in a Disney-produced Oswald the Lucky Rabbit cartoon which I do not remember the name of.Like several other Bosko cartoons, "Hold Anything" is simple yet a lot of musical fun. This cartoon has fallen into the public domain.
