Reviews and Comments

From Patrick Malone :

Mickey and Minnie attempt to get away by themselves when Daisy decides to invite herself along. I know that Daisy never had too well delineated a personality in the original shorts, but now? She comes across as someone who you have to wonder why anyone would want to be friends with. Shrill, almost abusive and a perpetual pain in the butt. Far from the "southern belle" persona we saw hints of in the later classic shorts.

That given, this one was pretty funny. Mickey and Minnie's facial expressions as they try to escape from Daisy were good, and the ending "wild ride" was fairly inventive, although a little unbelievable. One of the things that makes this series different from the classic shorts is that, while Disney tried to keep a bit of cartoon "realism" in his work, these shorts don't seem to conform to any consistent physical laws. So, in the past where there might have been some danger in going over a waterfall, here Daisy just drives down it (and then back up!) I think it's this idea that anything can happen that prevents us from feeling any real drama or tension in most of these shorts.

Still, it's Daisy's personality that makes me lower the score on this one. Funny as it was, it just seems to be coming out of left field. I keep wondering if they're setting us up for a short where the gang gets their revenge on Daisy.

From J. D. Weil :

When Mickey and Minnie decide to have a romantic drive in the countryside, Daisy turns it into a three's company situation and makes herself utterly obnoxious as the quintessential backseat driver that get turned into the front seat driver. Does Mickey and Minnie get to see the sunset alone? Stay Tuned.

From Davey-kins :

You know, for someone who didn't have much play in the Classic Cartoons, Daisy-chan's really getting herself some development (personality-wise, mind you.) Now, if only Mickey and Minnie can get her to bug Donald some.

From Lee Suggs :

Another short developing Daisy Duck as a very self centered, unlikeable character. Daisy forces herself on Mickey and Minnie's drive in the country. She then proceeds to ruin their own day, and nearly their lives. Lots of crazy gags when Daisy is driving the car and a very funny sequence when Mickey tells Daisy to hit the road. The ending was a little silly, but fun too. Overall a funny short, but not outstanding in any way.

From Nikki :

The only problem about this one is Daisy's attitude. She has turned so snobby and impulsive recently it's even more apparent in Disney's House of Mouse she is probably the only Disney character that I don't like. She was fine in the older shorts but now …

From Aaron :

I liked this short a lot. But I didn't like Daisy's characterization. She seemed like a self centered jerk. Other than that, I really enjoyed it.
