At any rate, I really enjoyed watching this (I assume) again. The plot owes more to the themes of Japanese folklore than European, so you won't find any cut and dried elements of good or evil in the hero, Sun Gokku. And there's a bit of a jarring change in style towards the end where the animation becomes looser and the music jazzier.
I was lucky enough to see this in the original Japanese with English subtitles. It exists in a dubbed version with vocals by Sterling Holloway and Jonathan Winters (among others) but that sounds too cutesy for my taste and would seem to try to make it into more of a Disney feature than it needs to be.
