Welcome to the IAD Forums!

The IAD Forums aims to be a relaxed forum for intelligent animation discussion. That said, we do require some rules to keep things going smoothly. By creating an account on this site, you acknowledge that you have read and agree to follow these rules. Failure to follow these rules will result in a warning, either publicly or privately, from a moderator. Repeated rule violations will result in account suspensions or even permanent bans, depending on the severity of the offenses. Keep in mind this forum isn't a place for "free speech"--you can say what you want to the extent that is allowed by the staff of this privately-owned message board.

That said, the admins and mods are not error-proof. If you feel you were warned in error, you are welcome to discuss it with us, but please keep your discussion private. Furthermore, if an admin or a mod finalizes the decision and declines any further discussion of said issue, do not continue to contact them about it.

If you are unsure whether your post violates these rules, contact a moderator privately.

1. This forum's official language is English.

2. Don't be a jerk. Really, just be respectful of others and things will be fine.

3. Respect the privacy of other members. Don't leak other members' private information (also known as "doxxing"). Don't ask members for their home address, school name, job, or anything else that, if revealed, would compromise their privacy. Please respect their wishes if they do not wish to disclose certain information.

4. Don't be a bigot. We won't tolerate discriminatory comments or slurs based on race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, etc. Members self-identifying as Nazis or claiming to be part of hate groups will be banned from the site.

5. Support of pedophilia, abuse, rape, etc. will not be tolerated and will result in an immediate ban from the site. Discussing and questioning allegations of such from, say, prominent celebrities, is acceptable as long as it is handled tastefully and respectfully.

6. This site is to remain family-friendly. Remember that members of all ages and sensibilities visit this site. Discussion of risqué animation and content (i.e., South Park, Family Guy, Fritz the Cat) is permitted, but please avoid outright pornography, overly offensive jokes/content, and excessive profanity. Furthermore, do not post links to NSFW content without a warning detailing the exact contents contained. NSFW includes sexually suggestive content, excessive gore, etc. This also applies to usernames--they cannot contain profanity, references to sexually suggestive terms, names of notorious people (i.e., murderers and dictators), or offensive jokes.

7. Do not post threads in more than one forum. If a thread would make sense in more than one board, pick the one that is the most suitable.

8. Please respect animators, directors, and the companies they work for. Don't publicly link to shady video sites illegally hosting recently released full episodes/movies. Criticism of a show/company/person is fine, but don't cross the line and threaten or harass an artist/animator/director/company/etc. with death, violence, or other forms of harm, even jokingly.

9. Try to make quality posts. Please do proper research before posting something, and back up your statements with reliable sources. Don't post off-topic nonsense, spam images/video, go off-topic for a long time, bump your own thread if you don't have anything useful to add to it, bump old threads if you don't have anything useful to add to them, and please, PLEASE do a bit of searching before asking for something. Asking questions to things you could easily Google is considered annoying and disrespectful to the forums' members.

10. Avoid posting links with no context. Some people will not click unlabeled links because they could contain screamers, shock sites, viruses, etc. This is especially true for the Fan Art/Fan Fiction forum and self-promotion in general; don't just post a link and leave.

11. No drama. Don't bring drama over from other sites, or deliberately start it for kicks.

12. Respect the moderators and administrators. We're here to help, and we ask for your cooperation. Don't try and enforce the rules on your own (this is also known as "minimodding"). Instead, report posts that violate them. If one of us tells you to stop doing something--even if the rules do not officially cover it--stop doing it. Don't argue that your activity technically "wasn't against the rules"; it won't work. While disagreement with our rules, decisions and enforcement of the rules is inevitable, don't make a public fuss about it on the boards.

13. If you're suspended, you're suspended, and if you're banned, you're banned. Don't circumvent your suspension/ban by creating new accounts, and don't ask others to post on your behalf.

14. Regarding the "eBay Finds Thread": if you find something especially valuable (i.e., a cartoon with original titles, a "lost" cartoon), DO NOT POST THE LINK(S) PUBLICLY. Instead, alert someone like Jerry Beck, Steve Stanchfield, Tommy Jose, etc. PRIVATELY. If just one person with deep pockets sees such an auction, it could become exponentially difficult to get. If you're unsure whether an auction is in "valuable" territory, contact a moderator privately, or err on the side of caution and refrain from posting it. If you still want to post links to these things, wait until the auction has ended (and I mean ended, not just relisted).

15. The administration reserves the right to confront or ban members that are discovered to have engaged in troubling conduct off-site. This site has a lot of members, and we don't keep tabs on everyone--that's an impossible (not to mention undesirable) task. We're not responsible for your behavior off-site, but if we determine that your behavior is dangerous to our reputation or to others, we reserve the right to either ask you to stop or outright ban you from posting here. Exactly what conduct falls under this rule is up to the administration, but a general rule of thumb is stuff that actively harms others, like Nazism and pedophilia. When the administration decides a decision regarding a ban is final, it is final.
