I'm sad to report that Bud Luckey, whom John Lasseter called "one of the true unsung heroes of animation", has passed away at the age of 83.

Some of his classic works included Dolly Madison advertisements featuring the Peanuts characters, animated inserts for Sesame Street (including the classics "Ladybugs' Picnic" and "The Alligator King"), and projects like The Mouse and His Child and Betty Boop's Hollywood Mystery,

Perhaps his best-known work can be found in the films of Pixar Animation Studios. He contributed greatly to the look of their first feature, Toy Story, which included creating and designing the character of "Woody", and also lent his talents to such films as A Bug's Life, Monsters, Inc., and Cars. In 2003, he wrote, directed, and performed in the Oscar-nominated short Boundin'. In addition, he also provided the voices of Rick Dicker in The Incredibles, Chuckles in Toy Story 3, and Eeyore in Disney's Winnie the Pooh.

Very sad that he died since his animated Sesame Street inserts are his best works in my opinion, besides his works at Disney and Pixar as a creator and a voice actor.

Animation in general doesn't get the respect that it deserves, so it's nice to see it featured on a major news show.
