This looks way better than Jerry's Diary.

It looks better, because it was remastered with its correct original titles.

But for some reason take a look for Texas Tom, 1950 (reissued vs. original print used in the "Smitten' Kitten, 1952" segment):

Texas Tom frame compare

And here's a similar frame from Steve's print. Looks to me like it has an alike color timing to the print used for the left part of the image, except everything is more blue purple.

Strange that WB chose horrible prints like those for the Golden Collection while much better prints appear on the Spotlight Collection.

@PorkyPigfan08 - But you know that in Spotlight Collection they mostly showed the unrestored Turner TV prints from 1995?!

@kazblox - Sometimes I would like to see the original print of "Texas Tom", but I can't.

And to good compare of GC2 ("beginning scene" from Texas Tom) in Texas Tom and segment used in the Cruise Cat, 1951

I hope you got "The Telecine Is Here" while you still could before this Sunday from Steve's offerings. That disc has the exact print of Texas Tom I showed.

Back to the GC2 topic: In the old IADB forum I read that "The Lonesome Mouse", 1943 (1949 rerelease) has the "AN MGM TOM AND JERRY CARTOON MADE IN...", etc... Also "Little Quacker", 1950 in the new remastered version has the post-The Hollywood Bowl logo. As we know, all shorts until The Hollywood Bowl had the "MADE IN..." sentence removed.

I've noticed. My opinion is that Warner restored only the original titles for this cartoon and the rest is restored from the reissued. Maybe the original copy was badly damaged or something like that

Something strange of the remastered cartoons of Tom and Jerry Golden Collection Volume 2 in that in two shorts, the quality of the video lacks more colors as it happens in Heavenly Puss and Jerry's Diary.

Screenshots from Heavenly Puss:

Jerry's Diary maybe it was because it included in the one part of the short Mouse Trouble where it was remastered like this, and probably that affected the whole short.

Comparisons from the original shorts remastered and Jerry's Diary remastered:

Tee for Two:

Mouse Trouble:

There is not much difference here.

Solid Serenade:

The Yankee Doodle Mouse:

This was brought up earlier in the thread. Basically, those two cartoons were sourced from inferior, non-Technicolor CRI prints, the way various cartoons on the first Golden Collection (Mouse Trouble, Puttin' on the Dog, etc.) were

If I see Thad do a another (late) hissy "review" regarding this set and whining about the prints used there, I going start sending links to the Filmation Tom and Jerry cartoons in his PM box ( which he will probably instantly delete anyway).

honestly the non-technicolor sources they used for gc vol. 2 are like...REALLY bad. they're dark and faded as all hell. most of the gc vol. 2 transfers have shown up on google play, boomerang's streaming service, etc. and even the dampest of the technicolor sources look a lot better than cheap stuff like heavenly puss's "restoration"

hated to throw a bit of a fit there but it's just not good-looking at all. the gc vol.1 non-tech masters looked better (and i didnt like those much either!)

The GC2 transfers are airing on European stations, which are where most online screenshots of them are coming from.

In my opinion Love that Pup is one of the shorts of the collection where it looks better if it is remastered.

What do you think guys? Tom Cat Jerry

love that pup looked pretty good, but sometimes the film was a little shaky, seems to get too shaky around 1-2 minute mark but kinda fixes itself eventually.
