Out of curiosity, I was checking TCM's online schedule to see what the next "Treasures From The Disney Vault" lineup would be (didn't find it at the moment). While doing so, I stumbled upon a random MGM Cartoon airing on June 2nd! And I thought, "Hey, this is pretty cool!" This got me thinking though, that perhaps this wasn't just a one-time thing, and that maybe they were airing more cartoons every Saturday morning. Turns out I was right! They've been doing so since at least March 10th too! Popeyes, Droopys, one-shot MGM toons, even Tom and Jerry!

Here's what TCM has been (and will be) playing in the coming weeks! (all times are approximations based on when they're listed on TCM's official schedule on their website; in addition, all times are listed in Eastern Daylight Time):

March 10th, 2018
*8AM - Tom and Jerry: The Counterfeit Cat (1950) (played during Ride Him, Cowboy (1932)) (EDIT: Strike that, this is actually a one-shot MGM Cartoon. My bad!)
*10AM - Popeye The Sailor: Popeye The Sailor (1933) (played during Tarzan, The Ape Man (1932))

March 17th, 2018
*8AM - Droopy: Droopy Leprechaun (1958) (played during The Big Stampede (1932))
*10AM - Popeye The Sailor: I Yam What I Yam (1933) (played during Tarzan And His Mate (1934))

March 24th, 2018
*8AM - MGM Cartoons: The Early Bird Dood It! (1942) (played during Haunted Gold (1932))
*10AM - Popeye The Sailor: Blow Me Down (1933) (played during Tarzan Escapes (1936))

March 31st, 2018 (despite it being past this date, both shorts are available online at Watch TCM On Demand until April 7th!)
*8AM - Barney Bear: The Bear Who Couldn't Sleep (1939) (played during How To Sleep (1935)) (go here to watch online!)
*10AM - Popeye The Sailor: I Eats My Spinach (1933) (played during Tarzan Finds A Son! (1939)) (go here to watch online!)

April 7th, 2018
*8AM - MGM Cartoons: Little Tinker (1948) (playing during Sagebrush Law (1932))
*10AM - Popeye The Sailor: Seasin's Greetinks! (1933) (playing during Tarzan's Secret Treasure (1941))

April 14th, 2018
*8AM - Droopy: Drag-A-Long Droopy (1954) (playing during The Avenging Rider (1943))
*10AM - Popeye The Sailor: Wild Elephinks (1933) (playing during Tarzan's New York Adventure (1942))

April 21st, 2018
*8AM - Barney Bear: Bear and the Bean (1947) (playing during Red River Robin Hood (1943))
*10AM - Popeye The Sailor: Sock-A-Bye, Baby (1934) (playing during Tarzan Triumphs (1943))

April 28th, 2018
*8AM - MGM Cartoons: Early Bird and the Worm (1936) (playing during The Story of Alfred Nobel (1939))
*10AM - Popeye The Sailor: Let's You and Him Fight (1933) (playing during Tarzan's Desert Mystery (1943))

Here's a link to the official TCM schedule for those who want to check out the official schedule as well: http://www.tcm.com/sched...est&sdate=2018-04-07

I posted this a couple of weeks ago on another thread. I have Direct TV and on their program guide it now lists "The Tex Avery Show" on Saturday mornings on TCM for 23 minutes--maybe 3 Tex cartoons? We can hope. I know the first few MGM cartoons have been Tex.

Oh good, the variety of MGM cartoons on TV again which I hadn't seen in years.

My apologies, I didn't see any posts on here about this. I wouldn't have mentioned it otherwise. :/

Interesting that your Direct TV guide lists The Tex Avery Show on TCM - my AT&T U-Verse guide just shows the main feature presentation, and makes absolutely no mention of cartoons on the schedule (guess I'll have to fast-forward through my DVR recording to find them on Saturday! :P). I'd love to see that be true though! :)

Wonderful news!

Speaking of MGM, maybe said company should also hop on board and give TCM some Pink Panthers as well. ;)

May is surprisingly getting ever closer, so here's next month's cartoon fun being featured on TCM! (all times are listed in Eastern Daylight Time; also, based on how TCM has been playing April's cartoons, the times listed below should be the exact time the cartoons air on TCM. However, I'd recommend recording the entire movie they're scheduled to air with anyway, just in case).

May 5th, 2018
*8AM - MGM Cartoons: Chips Off The Old Block (1942) (playing during California Mall (1936))
*10AM - Popeye The Sailor: The Man on the Flying Trapeze (1933) (playing during Tarzan And The Amazons (1945))

May 12th, 2018
*8AM - MGM Cartoons: One Mother's Family (1939) (playing during Land Beyond the Law (1937))
*10AM - Popeye The Sailor: Can You Take It (1934) (playing during Tarzan and the Leopard Woman (1946))

May 19th, 2018
*8AM - Droopy: Homesteader Droopy (1954) (playing during Blazing Sixes (1937))
*10AM - Popeye The Sailor: Shoein' Hosses (1934) (playing during Tarzan and the Huntress (1947))

May 26th, 2018
Unfortunately, no shorts today due to a special Memorial Day War-Themed Feature Film Marathon.

Also of note, this may or may not be the final month that the Popeye shorts are broadcast on TCM. While the Tarzan movies continue to air in the 10AM timeslot, the TCM schedule currently does not list any Popeye cartoons after May 19th, 2018. I'd still say record the Tarzan movies anyway, as they may still end up airing more Popeye cartoons anyways.

I've been DVRing those shorts on TCM and they never appear in the recording. I tried waiting to see the short after the film last week (9:00 A.M.- (9:30 A.M.) but the cartoon never aired. Only the next scheduled film. Did the cartoons actually air?

I have the same DVR problems too. mainly I think part of the blame can probably go to TV Guide. couple of problems here and there, the TV Guide gets some of start order of the programs at the wrong spots, sometimes they do it on time. Before the cartoon is shown the TV age rating screen is shown. also after the cartoon short gets shown the movie follows after with out the TV age rating screen.

The cartoons are airing so far at exactly 8:00 and 10:00 though that is not what my Direct TV schedule shows so I have just been DVRing the entire time frame from 8-11:30.

Just an fyi for those who recorded this week's (April 28th) shorts: The Popeye short did air this week, but for whatever reason, it aired immediately after the Tarzan movie, rather than before the Tarzan movie like it has been the past few weeks. The MGM short (which I didn't realize was a Happy Harmonies cartoon - nice to see one on TV again, haven't seen once since Boomerang stopped playing their MGM cartoon block years ago!) played right at 8AM as usual.

Also, while not a cartoon, an "Our Gang" short played right after a commercial break following the Popeye short! I thought that may interest some folks here. :)

Jeez, the months just keep flying by! :P

Just a reminder: Next week, as far as I can tell, there will not be any cartoon shorts playing on TCM. Just to be sure though, I'd recommend recording the movies playing from 6:15AM ET - 12PM ET that day, just in case they decide to sneak some in there (maybe some Private Snafu or other war-themed cartoons?). I'll be doing so, and will report back next Saturday if there was any.

Also, it would seem that the Popeye cartoons will be continuing in June after all! Hooray for Popeye! Popeye

Without further ado, here's the classic cartoons playing on TCM in June!

June 2nd, 2018
*8AM - The Captain and the Kids: A Day at the Beach (1938) (playing during Scarlet River (1933))
*10AM - Popeye The Sailor: Strong to the Finich (1933) (playing during Tarzan and the Mermaids (1948))

June 9th, 2018
*8AM - Barney Bear: Sleepy-Time Squirrel (1954) (playing during The Saddle Buster (1932))
*10AM - Popeye The Sailor: Shiver Me Timbers! (1934) (playing during Tarzan's Magic Fountain (1949))

June 16th, 2018
*8AM - MGM Cartoons: Papa Gets The Bird (1940) (playing during Freighters of Destiny (1932))
*10AM - Popeye The Sailor: Axe Me Another (1934) (playing during Tarzan and the Slave Girl (1950))

June 23rd, 2018
*8AM - Droopy: The Three Little Pups (1953) (playing during Come on Danger! (1932))
*10AM - Popeye The Sailor: A Dream Walking (1934) (playing during Tarzan's Peril (1951))

June 30th, 2018
*8AM - MGM Cartoons: Cellbound (1955) (playing during Beyond The Rockies (1932))
*10AM - Popeye The Sailor: The Two-Alarm Fire (1934) (playing during Tarzan's Savage Fury (1952))

June's almost done, so it's time to see what TCM has scheduled for its Saturday Matinee cartoons in July!

However, before we get to that, TCM's regular schedule will be pre-empted during the month of August for their annual "Summer Under The Stars" event. This likely means that there won't be any cartoons on TCM during the month of August (I'll still likely be taping the timeslots they're normally featured in, just in case they decide to slip one in). Don't worry though, they'll be back in September!

Now then, here's the schedule for July! (NOTE: I could have sworn that the Popeye cartoons for July were already listed, but as of 6/23/18, TCM's schedule on their website isn't showing them. Regardless, continue to record the Tarzan movies at 10AM ET, as I swear I checked the schedule earlier and Popeye shorts were listed. I will add the titles if/when TCM's schedule updates to include them).:

July 7th, 2018
*8AM - Droopy: Homesteader Droopy (1954) (playing during Dude Cowboy (1941); a rare re-run for this short! Originally aired back on May 19th, 2018))
*10AM - Popeye The Sailor: The Dance Contest (1934) (playing during Tarzan and the She-Devil (1953))

July 14th, 2018
*8AM - MGM Cartoons: Batty Baseball (1944) (playing during Along The Rio Grande (1941))
*10AM - Popeye The Sailor: We Aim To Please (1934) (playing during Tarzan's Hidden Jungle (1955))

July 21st, 2018
*8AM - The Captain and the Kids: Old Smokey (1938) (playing during The Bandit Trail (1941))
*10AM - Popeye The Sailor: Beware of Barnacle Bill (1935) (playing during Tarzan and the Lost Safari (1957))

July 28th, 2018
*8AM - Barney Bear - The Little Wise Quacker (1952) (playing during Cyclone on Horseback (1941))
*10AM - Popeye The Sailor: Be King to 'Aminals' (1935) (playing during Tarzan's Fight For Life (1958))

As I figured, the Popeye cartoons are indeed continuing to be broadcast over on TCM right before their Tarzan feature film presentations! Today's was "The Dance Contest" from 1934.

Unfortunately, the TCM schedule hasn't added listings for the Popeye cartoons for the rest of July yet, so I guess I'll just be adding them on to the post above this one as the month rolls on by!

A bit surprising the July schedule is listing the MGM cartoons but not the Popeye cartoons. It doesn't make sense.

Yeah, definitely agree. Normally their schedules show both in advance. Thankfully, it looks like they've finally added the Popeye cartoons to the schedule for the remainder of July! I've updated the July schedule post with the new info. :)

Just a reminder: TCM's Saturday Morning broadcasts of classic cartoons will likely be on hiatus throughout the month of August, due to TCM's annual "Summer Under The Stars" event. I'll be recording the 8AM - 11:30AM timeslots just to be safe (I also recommend doing this to all who watch the cartoons as well), and will report back here if TCM slips in any cartoons during these timeslots.

Apologies for not getting this out sooner! After a month-long hiatus, I completely forgot to update before September started!

Before the September listings, just wanted to point out that TCM, unfortunately, didn't sneak in any cartoons last month during its Summer Under The Stars event (there were a few live-action shorts, but no cartoons :().

Anywho, here's the cartoons that will be shown on TCM in September!:

September 1st, 2018
*8AM - Droopy: Dumb-Hounded (1943) (playing during The Fargo Kid (1941))
*10AM - Popeye The Sailor: Pleased To Meet Cha! (1935) (playing during Tarzan and the Trappers (1958))

September 8th, 2018
*8AM - MGM Cartoons: The Alley Cat (1941) (playing during Robbers of the Range (1941))
*10AM - Popeye The Sailor: The Hyp-Nut-Tist (1935) (playing during Tarzan's Greatest Adventure (1959))

September 15th, 2018
*8AM - George and Junior: Henpecked Hoboes (1946) (playing during Six-Gun Gold (1941))
*10AM - Popeye The Sailor: For Better or Worser (1935) (playing during Tarzan, The Ape Man (1959))

September 22nd, 2018
*8AM - MGM Cartoons: The Little Goldfish (1939) (playing during Thundering Hoofs (1941))
*10AM - Popeye The Sailor: Dizzy Divers (1935) (playing during Tarzan The Magnificent (1960) <----Final "Tarzan" film broadcast, next week they're switching to broadcasts of "The Saint" films)

September 29th, 2018
*8AM - MGM Cartoons: The House of Tomorrow (1949) (playing during Land of the Open Range (1942))
*10AM - Popeye The Sailor: You Gotta Be A Football Hero (1935) (playing during The Saint in New York (1935))

For those of you keeping score, they aired an edited version of Henpecked Hoboes on 9/15. I don't know if anyone's expectation was that TCM was airing uncut versions, but it appears that they are not.

I noticed an odd jump to the next scene while I was watching it as well, but it didn't even occur to me that it was a broadcast edit. Shame that it was edited, but I guess that was the only print of the short they had at hand for broadcast. Oh well. :/
