I did not expect this to happen. For the record, my money's between Warner and Paramount

I've read at TV Tropes that Charles Schultz tried a few times to buy the copyright from the syndicate, but was always just a little short of what the company wanted. I wonder if his estate will/can buy the rights to the franchise.

Will Hallmark still have the license to do Peanuts merch? "America Greetings" isn't that well known to do Christmas Ornaments. And yes, I'm well aware that Disney has a greeting card deal with both companies.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but Sony Music Entertainment (Japan) now owns a stake in the Peanuts brand. This means that DHX will own 41%, Sony 39% and the Schultz family 21%.

What would a music company do with a comic strip property besides doing reprints and getting royalties of Vince's albums?

Sony Music Entertainment is...a kind of odd establishment. They don't just deal in music, as they own Aniplex (a major Japanese animation studio), and also operate the Animax television channel in Japan and other various countries from what I can tell. Not sure why they're named what they are when the company is basically a free-for-all for entertainment media.

Peanuts anime, anyone?
